What Would Emma Do? + Contest!

Hey Everyone!

I won What Would Emma Do? by Eileen Cook from a contest on Shooting Stars Mag (great blog!). I was so excited! Eileen sent me the copy and it was signed (To Genevieve, Happy Reading!) and I read it right away. Well, much to my surprise, I got an ARC of What Would Emma Do? a few days ago. Now, usually I know where each book I get came from but I was slightly confused that I had a second copy of the book. Then I remembered that Devyn (Monday) of Five Awesome YA Fans told me that he gave my address to a couple of authors/publishers and to expect something in the mail soon. He didn't tell me what the book was because he wanted it to be a surprise. Well, I can guarantee you that it was a surprise! I don't need two copies of the same book, so the ARC is now going to be given away in a contest. Here's my review and the contest info will be below the review.

What Would Emma Do? By Eileen Cook

Summary from Barnes & Noble.com:

"While juggling friendship issues (her best friend isn't speaking to her), a love triangle-turned-square (okay, maybe she shouldn't have kissed her best friend's boyfriend...but it was totally an accident!...sort of), and escalating mayhem in her small religious town (uh-oh...what would Jesus do?), Emma realizes she has to stop trying to please everyone around her and figure out what she wants for herself. It's time to start asking, "What would Emma do?""

My Review:

I really liked this book. When I had read reviews, I thought that the religion aspects of the book would be little to none, like in Maureen Johnson's Devilish. But as I read the book, there were a few psalms in it and I was starting to wonder how religious the book really was. I'm not big on books that have preaching in it and so I wasn't sure if I wanted to really continue to read it. But I have issues with starting a book and not finishing it, so I trudged on.

Well, I do have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. It was REALLY good. Eileen Cook had a way of creating different characters that you can relate to and recognize in others. I've never been in a private Christian school, but I can associate many of her characters with people in my own life. I really liked Emma, she was a smart and grounded character that needed to look into herself to find the answers. And she did. The book doesn't have a fairy tale ending, but it tied up nicely and I was very content with the outcome. What Would Emma Do? reminded me of the Salem Witch Trials in a way, where a town starts to spiral out of control and people start to question each other.

Overall, I'd recommend this book to most everyone. It had me laughing out loud and I was concerned about the characters.

Now, I'm still trying to figure out how I want to rate the books but for now I'll say that I'd give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I would love to be entered in this contest. I just saw the book at Barnes and Noble the other day but I didn't have any more money after buying a ton of other books so I held myself back. Thanks for the great contest!
